November 1980

A small group of individuals in our area - including Dr. Terry Meyer, Irene Franco, RN, Esther Sherrod, RN, Lila Roberts, and Don Combs - gathered to discuss the need to serve individuals with a terminal illness. Don Beasley and Stephen Hubert assisted in accounting and legal, Emma Jean Cervantes joined the Board of Directors, and Wanda Bullock, RN, served as a volunteer nurse. 

1982

Mesilla Valley Hospice is incorporated.

1983

Venture in Mission grant from St. Andrew's Episcopal Church establishes Mesilla Valley Hospice as a viable program. We are also accepted into the United Way Program.

1984

We achieve Medicare certification.

1990 - Present

Ron Nims, architect, donates much of his work to Mesilla Valley Hospice.

1990s

Gilbert Perez assists with securing indigent funding.

1993

Three physicians - Dr. Duarte, Dr. Fleming, and Dr. Pucelik - donate the pentagon-shaped structure that now serves as our office building, along with five acres of land. Mary Anna Carlson, their business manager offers her support.

1994

First capital campaign for La Posada raised over $1.3 million to renovate old Three Crosses Medical Building and build first wing of La Posada.

1997

Construction of La Posada completed.

1998

La Posada's first wing of patient rooms is completed, making it the first free-standing hospice house in the state of New Mexico. Our first patient in La Posada came in September of this year.

2002

20th anniversary! A second capital campaign started that raised approximately $1 million to add a second wing to La Posada.

2003

La Posada's second wing is completed.

2006

Drs. Duarte and Pucelik donate another acre of land

$766,000 in capital outlay funds are received for furnishings and equipment for final expansion

2009

La Posada's third wing and Building B were completed. Randy Farmer donates large portion of the landscaping.

2012

Celebrate 30 years of providing excellent care to our community!

2017

In our 35th  year, we continue strong and move forward to continue the legacy of providing comfort and compassionate care to our community.
